Directory
Veterinary clinics in Chennai
Twenty-three clinics and hospitals across Chennai, each with the date it was last checked. Only two publish 24-hour opening, and both are institutions on one street. Twenty-five records were thrown out, including two KFC branches, a hotel and a human PET scan unit, and the page says so rather than letting you assume the list is everything Google returned.
Quick answer
Chennai's out-of-hours veterinary cover is unusually thin. Only two of the twenty-three clinics listed here publish 24-hour opening, against fourteen of forty-eight in Hyderabad, and both are institutions on Vepery High Road: the Madras Veterinary College emergency unit and the Madras Veterinary hospital. The private clinics cluster in Kilpauk, Choolai, Washermanpet, Nungambakkam and Mylapore. Bonbeno verifies that a clinic exists and what it states about itself, and does not assess clinical quality.
Read this one before you need it, because Chennai is the thinnest city in this directory for out-of-hours care. **Only two listings publish 24-hour opening**, the Madras Veterinary College Hospital Emergency and Critical Care Unit and the Madras Veterinary hospital, and both are on Vepery High Road in the north of the city. Several private clinics close by 9 PM and some open only for an evening session. If you live south or west of the centre, know the route to Vepery now rather than at 2am. Treat collapse, laboured breathing, a distended or hard abdomen, seizures, suspected poisoning, inability to urinate and heat stroke as immediate.
This page is a directory, not veterinary advice. Nothing here describes what is wrong with your animal or what to do about it. If your pet is unwell, call a vet and describe the symptoms rather than acting on anything written here, and in an emergency go to the nearest clinic that is open rather than the nearest one on this list.
Chennai's veterinary map has one centre of gravity and a long tail. The centre is Vepery and Periamet, where the Madras Veterinary College campus, its emergency and critical care unit, its teaching outpatient hospital, the Madras Veterinary hospital and the SPCA all sit within a few hundred metres of each other on and around Vepery High Road. Between them they account for both of the city's round-the-clock listings and more than five thousand reviews. The tail is a scatter of private clinics through Kilpauk, Choolai, Washermanpet, Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar, Ayanavaram, Perambur, Nungambakkam, Teynampet and Mylapore, most of them single-vet practices running one or two sessions a day. That shape matters for an emergency: several clinics here publish an evening session only, and the two 24-hour options are in one place. The cheapest clinical care is the SPCA on Vepery High Road, which prices a first puppy vaccination at 400 rupees and anti-rabies at 200 in its own listing. Twenty-three clinics are listed below and twenty-five records were excluded, which the method section sets out in full.
What verified means here
- Verified means
- the clinic exists, and its address, phone, stated hours and stated services match what the clinic itself publishes.
- Verified does not mean assessed
- Bonbeno does not evaluate clinical quality, outcomes or standard of care. A listing is not a recommendation and neither group below is a ranking.
- Verified is dated
- every row carries the day it was last checked. Clinics move, change hours and close.
- Ratings are Google's, not ours
- a rating is always shown with its review count and its source, because a 5.0 from 23 reviews and a 3.8 from 4,024 are not comparable numbers.
Clinics in Chennai
Grouped by whether the clinic publishes 24-hour opening, which comes from its own hours and not from us. Inside each group the order is the source's own and neither group is a ranking. Call ahead before you travel, and do not rely on published hours in an emergency.

How this list was built
Every row comes from a Google Business Profile pull on 16 October 2026 across three search terms, then filtered. Forty-eight records were returned and twenty-three are published. Twenty-five were dropped, more than half the pull, and this was the least accurate search of any city in this directory. Eleven were not veterinary at all: two KFC branches, a five-star hotel, two serviced-apartment buildings, two restaurants, an Apollo oncologist, Apollo Hospitals itself, a state multispeciality hospital for people, and a bus stop named after a veterinary hospital. Six were pet shops. Three were out of scope by subject: a cattle shelter, the veterinary college's large animal outpatients, which is its livestock clinic, and a human PET scan unit, whose name the veterinary-word filter would otherwise have read as a companion animal. Two were the college itself and its dean's office, which are not places to take an animal, while its emergency unit and its teaching hospital are and both stay. One was a veterinary pharmacy and one was flagged closed by the source. The last was dropped by hand: an Animal Birth Control centre for street dogs. The 24-hour flag is set only from a clinic's own published hours, never from Google's emergency category, which sits on two Chennai clinics that are not open round the clock. Services are what the clinic says it offers and sixteen clinics publish no usable description, so they carry no service list rather than an invented one. Ratings are Google's, shown with their review count, and never used to order the page: one clinic here shows 1.0 from a single review, which is a number about one visit and not about the practice. No individual veterinarian is named, because registration under the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 could not be checked against the Veterinary Council of India or the Tamil Nadu State Veterinary Council for any of them.Common questions
Which vets in Chennai are open 24 hours?
Two, and both are on Vepery High Road. The Madras Veterinary College Hospital Emergency and Critical Care Unit publishes round-the-clock opening and carries 1,898 reviews, and the Madras Veterinary hospital publishes the same and carries 1,271. No private clinic in this pull publishes 24-hour opening. If you live away from the north of the city, work out that journey before you need it.
Is there a low-cost or charitable vet in Chennai?
Yes. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Vepery High Road prices its services in its own listing: a first puppy vaccination at 400 rupees, anti-rabies at 200, boarding, free treatment for rescued dogs and animal birth control at a nominal rate. It opens 9 AM to 5 PM and closes on Sunday. The Madras Veterinary College teaching hospital is the other institutional option.
Why did the search return KFC and a hotel?
Because the crawl drifted off topic once it exhausted genuine veterinary listings, which happens when a city's supply is thinner than the requested record count. Forty-eight records came back and eleven were not veterinary in any sense, including two KFC branches, the Taj Coromandel and Apollo Hospitals. They were removed. The count is published here so you can see the list is filtered rather than complete.
Does Bonbeno check whether these vets are any good?
No. We check that a clinic exists and that its address, phone, stated hours and stated services match what the clinic itself publishes, and we date that check. We do not assess clinical competence, outcomes or standard of care, and nothing here is a recommendation of one clinic over another.
Why is the veterinary college listed more than once?
Because Google holds its parts as separate listings and only some of them treat animals. The emergency and critical care unit and the teaching outpatient hospital are on this page. The college itself, its dean's office and its large animal outpatients, which is the livestock clinic, are not, because none of the three is somewhere to take a dog or a cat.
